Black Swan bespoke contemporary side table console design by Paul Chilton

In addition to the ballet references in this design – the dynamic poise of the legs, the Swan Lake inspired contrast between their striking black and the restrained, warmth and elegance of the pearwood sunburst top – Black Swan also embodies more personal inspiration for the maker. Designer Paul Chilton, born in Australia to British and South African parents, spent a portion of his childhood in England to which he returned to train as a furniture designer, where he made this piece. The black swan/white swan dichotomy is also a reference to this background, a black swan being Australia’s endemic equivalent to England’s royal bird.
